19" X 24", Acrylic and Gesso on Wood Inspired by the German Expressionistic film "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" and the images contained within, this is my rendition of "Jane" the young woman and would-be fiancee' whom is kidnapped by Cesare' the Somnambulist in Caligari's devious schemes. Of all the characters in the film, she is the most stoic, and the purest thing in the mind's eye of the narrator of the tale - hence the stark shapes and values used.
38" X 11", Acrylic on Wood Inspired by the German Expressionistic film "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" and the images contained within, this is my rendition of the mural poster that Caligari first shows to advertise Cesare' the Somnambulist - his chosen subject.
22" X 18", Acrylic and Gesso on Canvas Inspired by the German Expressionistic film "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" and the images contained within, herein is the mad doctor himself, or at least as the protagonist, Francis, portrays him - as a mad, jumbled, disheveled madman, whose only interest is seeing the predictions of his somnambulist, Cesare, realized.
Series: Caligari
I love classic black and white films - Maybe not for the plots or the acting, but for the imagery. Upon seeing "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari", I created this series of Expressionistic Portraits for each of the main characters.
